Over 15 Years of Experience Serving Clients
• Family law - We have experience in the many issues related to family law. We represent people in the areas of divorce, child custody and child support, alimony and marital property. We also serve our clients in guardianship disputes and assist our clients by preparing prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements and separation agreements.
• Divorce - Our divorce clients are always informed of their status of their case. We help then to develop their legal options and to understand possible long term consequences of their choices so that they can make the best decisions possible.
• Mediation services - As part of the alternative dispute resolution process, the law firm offers mediation services. In many instances, resolving a dispute may be efficiently approached by engaging the services of a mediator. At its core, the role of the mediator is to serve as a neutral and impartial facilitator to help parties engage in a respectful conversation to reach an agreement. Successful mediation allows the parties to determine their own destiny and does not impose a solution on them. Mediation is a confidential procedure that permits the participants to focus on their interests, generate options, and select reasonable alternatives to solve a problem. Parties in the midst of litigation are referred routinely by the courts to mediation, but many people also choose to participate in mediation before filing a lawsuit. Mediation can be helpful to deal with differences with family members, business colleagues, or neighbors.
• Collaborative law - A collaborative divorce is an alternative to divorce litigation. The parties work together toward a settlement of all issues.
• Custody and child support - We will assess your situation in order to protect your rights when it comes to child custody and child support. We look for solutions that will be mindful of hwat will be the best arrangement for your children in this difficult transitional time.
• Alimony - We will help you assess the likelihood of an award for alimony based on not only the income of the parties, but on the many factors that courts use to make this determination.
• Property Division - During the divorce process, we can help you assess issues in dividing property. in the division of the marital property including the debts and assets acquired during the marriage. We will help you to determine which property is separate property and what is marital property.
• Estate Planning - Major life events such as marriage, birth of a child, divorce or retirement can cause you to evaluate your estate planning decisions. Being properly prepared with a will or trust, advanced health care directive, or power of attorney can put you at ease. We can look at your circumstances and create an estate plan to accomplish your goals.
• Legislative advocacy - We represent client interests in Annapolis and have worked with legislators and legislative committees in the Maryland General Assembly. To date, we have been involved in the passage of over 50 pieces of family law legislation. This advocacy keeps our practice on the cutting edge of family law issues in Maryland.
